Trash2Art 2012 Reception is a Zero Waste event.

Thanks to our partners for helping make the Trash2Art 2012 reception a zero waste event for the second year in a row.

By employing different tactics, we are able to eliminate any discards from entering the waste stream.

Our food sponsor Whole Foods, Fort Lauderdale is providing finger foods to reduce the need for dishes and flatware.  The dishes that we do have are reusable.

Choice, Broward County's facilities recycler, will recycle the traditional single-stream materials like wine bottles and carboard boxes.

Florida Atlantic University's Mission Green volunteers will be on hand to direct visitors what to do with their trash. At the end of the evening, they will take the compostable waste to their FAU compost facility to be used in their urban gardens.

Our plastic cups, left overs from the CityLink Beerfest,  will be upcycled by TerraCycle through our partnership with Broward College.  Revenue for the cups from TerraCycle funds an Environmental Science Schloarship.

Thanks to Rehrig-Pacific for providing carts for the event.

We'll see you at the reception, Thursday, August 16 at ArtServe 1350 East Sunrise Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, 6-8PM

Help "4 Children's S.A.K.E."

A local nonprofit organization is gathering school supplies for children in need, particularly children in foster care.  They would like to include 1" binders in their supplies.  Do you have any that you aren't using?  Please consider donating them to 4 Children’s S.A.K.E.

Background Information:
4 Children’s S.A.K.E., Inc. is committed to providing services, programs and activities for underprivileged, at-risk, medically needy, handicapped and/or special needs children/teenagers housed in foster care homes, shelters, medical facilities, therapeutic facilities and/or other such care centers in Broward County, Florida, as well as helping their caregivers, foster parents, birth families and ...
guardians with the many needs of the children/teenagers. We are dedicated to reducing the numerous impacts that poverty, violence, malnutrition, health risks and/or academic limitations have on the children/teenagers, as well as battling the effects of abuse, abandonment and/or neglect that are too often experienced.

Hands On As We Grow - A Treasure Trove of Ideas

Sometimes you find great ideas in unexpected places.  The following link showed up in my FaceBook news feed.  The site "handsonaswegrow.com" has fabulous ideas that are both good for children and for the environment.

"You’ll find crafts, art projects, energetic activities, and fine motor activities regularly on the blog. And a couple times each month I do a collection of play activities on a theme, such as what to do with all your crayons!"

Blogging-Don't Quit Your Day Job

Ever wonder how much you can make blogging? Not much. Sure, who doesn't want to sit home in their under wear all day spouting off about their favorite topics and get paid for it?

After three and a half years of blogging, we received just over the minimum payment of $100 from the Google AdSense program. You know, those ads to the right that we probably aren't allowed to mention. Trash to Treasure generates revenue when someone clicks on them. The ads are generated based on the content of our blog and your web searches.

We don't generally break news or post controversial ideas here. Our biggest use is to link from our Facebook page so that we can provide more information than FB has room for. We also put links in our emails to different topics. Blogger is a great companion to our web site.

Our highest revenue post was the 2012 Boca Beerfest. We posted a picture of a sexy girl and linked to a wide variety of disparate FB friends. It worked.

So, don't quit your day job or even your night job but keep blogging.
