If you're near the beach in Fort Lauderdale, check this out.

Through Feb 2013: Light Up the Beach: Fort Lauderdale beach gets decked out for the holidays with thousands of holiday lights illuminated along the beachfront, November 21, 2012. The picturesque corner of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard will feature a larger-than-life sculpture of fish constructed from recycled plastic bottles and illuminated from the inside creating a spectacular light show. Household Hazardous Collection Events

Opportunities abound to help the environment. An easy one is to participate in one of the 2012—2013 HHW and Electronics Recycling Collection Events which are conducted all over Broward County.

Sunday morning, I went to the event at No. Lauderdale with light bulbs and paints. All events are Sundays, 8 a.m.- 3 p.m.  (Proof of Broward County Residency Required)

For more information, call 954-765-4999 or see http://www.broward.org/WasteAndRecycling/Recycling/Pages/EventCalendar.aspx .

Volunteer to Earn a Trash to Treasure Membership

Trash to Treasure is proud to announce a new benefit for volunteering with us at the Center.

You can now earn a membership to Trash to Treasure.  Use the membership for yourself or give it to someone else.

Here are the details:

EARN YOUR MEMBERSHIP BY VOLUNTEERING!
6 shifts = ONE FULL MEMBERSHIP valued at $60

1 full SHIFT =     Fridays 2-7
1/2 SHIFT=          Saturday 10-2 or 2-5:30
1 full SHIFT+    Saturday 10- 5:30

We made our decisions on the shifts based on Fridays being a little quieter. Because Saturday is a 7.5 hour day, we have provided the opportunity for split schedule to do only 1/2 the day. If someone wants to commit to the entire day, we give them an extra .5 for the extra time.

Shifts can be scheduled as frequently as desired, and membership is awarded at the completion of six shifts.  Current members are encouraged to start now to earn membership credits that can earn a membership by renewal time.

We are starting to fill the calendar for January and February.    Email to select your dates.
